India Night – Diwali celebration

Written on December 15, 2013 by Campus Life in Geographic

India nightEvery year, IE India Club organizes its flagship event to celebrate Diwali since Diwali is one of the most recognizable Indian festivals globally. The celebrations this year began with a small prayer to the gods for prosperity. This was followed by a small rangoli competition where teams put together traditional designs on the floor using rice powders and colors.
The winning teams were given small prizes that were handed over by the representatives of the Indian Embassy. Any Indian event is of course not complete without a full culinary experience and this was done with a good selection of starters and food representing different cuisines from India. We also served Indian beer to give a true Indian experience.
The entertainment of the night began with a flashy performance from a group of Indian girls from the Indian community at Madrid that graciously accepted to perform at our event. There were two other exciting performances by the students from IE.
The night concluded with dancing and celebrating the Indian culture and spirit. With attendance of 250 people, great food, drinks, dancing, inclusion and immersion we achieved what IE India Club set out to do – give the IE Experience an Indian flavour and celebrate as a group – a group that might be the most diverse in the world but comes together as one to celebrate that diversity.
