photoespanaThis time’s PhotoEspaña 2014 was quite the recluse Madrid needed from the drab summer. IE Arts and Business Club had organized a tour in collaboration with the IE Photography club for the event.

This was attended by twenty odd art and photography enthusiasts and the tour was led by Eloisa of Art Gallery Tour. The themes-varying anywhere from abstract to the play of light and dialects ,to the sheer humane side of human history were quite enticing indeed.

A notable work was that of a Belgium video artist, Chantal Akerman, at Elba Benitez Gallery who played with shadows and live video clips to showcase the mother-daughter bonding and the transience of human life and time through her mother’s passing days. Another noteworthy exhibition was from Juan Bufill, at Joan Gaspar Gallery who captures the play of light on water-often resembling Japanese calligraphy. There was also the exhibition at Rafael Perez Hernando Gallery, from David Palacín, on faces from Gorée, a island just in front of Senegal. What was worth noting here was the calm ease of the stance of the figures which were in quiet and complete contrast with the pathos in their eyes.

Overall-this was a day of experience and enlightenment, vision and realisation – the perfect Saturday arty spectacle.PS-This festival runs till the 27th of July. So if you haven’t yet seen it, book out your next day off!
