Chinese New Year – Culture Event

Written on April 28, 2016 by Campus Life in Geographic

On the 5th February 2016, the China Club hosted an event celebrating the Chinese New Year enabling IE students the opportunity to spread the traditional Chinese atmosphere. Since most of the IE students are knowledgeable on Chinese stuff, all the members of the China Club agreed to hold an extraordinary event bringing unimaginable acts and activities to the IE campus. The programme ended up consisting of Dragon dancing, Martial arts performance, Guqi performance and Chinese Calligraphy. Initially we thought this programme was crazy and unachievable, but the IE spirit we had inside made us not give up this plan without at least trying it. “So, why not?” we told ourselves, becoming the motivation of each member in the China club. The programme started of with the Chinese Calligraphy. This was warmly welcomed by many students who showed up to the site where the event was taking place to have their own name written in Chinese. Meanwhile, we could all hear the strong drumming overwhelming the crowd noise. “The Tiger!” a kid screamed upon witnessing the appearance of the performers. Despite all of us knowing the performers act was included in the programme we could not hold back our surprised faces when they arrived. Following up, we introduced the Guqi performance. For most of the integrants in the audience, it was the first time they saw the traditional Chinese music instrument, Guqi, and this experience was possible all thanks to an IE student who had knowledge in this exceptional instrument.IE China Club - Chinese New Year3

Lastly, a group of Kung Fu martial arts students perfected the closing performance, inducing an elated expression on the viewers by using their enthusiasm and charm. There were a couple of students who were brave enough to go onto the stage and try some of the Kong Fu moves. In the meantime, traditional food-Dim Sum and Spring Rolls- were offered to the people who attended the event. On behalf of the China club i would like to say we are glad we could make possible this event, with the participation of people from diverse nationalities and receiving positive feedback from the guests present in the event more than eager to participate in future event we might organise.
