IMG_0925 On the 7th of July we had the chance to host one of the most important presidents in Colombia and Latin America, Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

He was president of Colombia from 2002 to 2010, until now he has been the only one with 3 presidential periods in the country. He founded the Democratic Center political party and is part of it today.

He is recognized for his continuous efforts to defeat Colombia’s greatest problem, which is the guerrilla, mainly the one known as FARC (Revolutionary Army Forces of Colombia).IMG_0936

In his conference we where able to listen to his point of view of what’s happening in Colombia right now, which is the peace process that is being held by the current president Juan Manuel Santos.

After his speech, there was space for questions from the attendees, there where inquiries about the future of Colombia’s peace negotiation, about Venezuela’s future, about Latin America in general. During this open discussion, students where also able to show their respect and appreciation to him.

At the end of the conference, the Colombia Club President Oscar Zapata gave to Mr. Uribe a present in the name of the IE Business School; he received the present very kindly and was very touched by the meaning of it.

These types of conferences with important and influential people are very important to students, they are able to broaden their point of view of certain past and current events of the politics of a country.
