La Primavera Rosa

Written on July 15, 2016 by Campus Life in Social

On 16 June IEOut welcomed Rafa and Alfonso, the producer and cinematographer of La Primavera Rosa, a series of short documentaries on LGBT life around the world, to show their films at IE. With the ultimate goal of traveling to many more countries, and their next sight on Brazil, the series currently consists of exposes on the hardships young LGBTs face in Tunisia, Russia, and Mexico.

Seen as the first instalment of IEOut’s “LGBT Life Around the World” series, which aims to bring the IE community firsthand accounts of what is it like for LGBTs everywhere, especially in developing countries, the Primavera Rosa project tells the passionate and inspiring stories of young people in Tunisia, Russia, and Mexico.IMG_7392

We welcomed 20 people to the event and had the pleasure to have Rafa from Creta Productions present the pieces and tell us more about their organization and how they want to expose for the world what is happening to LGBT communities around the world. Directed by Mario de la Torre, who was nominated for a Goya in 2009, who says he was inspired by the Arab spring of 2010 to tell the stories of those who aren’t usually covered in the mass media.

The project has won the prize for best film of human rights in the International Invisible Cinema Festival in 2015 and best short documentary at LesGaiCineMadrid in 2015.

In question and answer sessions after each short film, the audience was able to directly ask Rafa and Alfonso what their experience was like being received in these countries as well as their thoughts on the evolution of LGBT rights around the world.

We also have codes available for those in the IE community who wish to watch the documentaries online. Please contact us via Facebook and we are happy to share these beatifically made films with you. (https://www.facebook.com/IEOut/)
