Social Responsability Forum 2017

On 25th October the IE Net Impact Club welcomed more than 150 students and industry thought leaders to its 12th Social Responsibility Forum, “Driving Innovation Around Responsible Business.” The forum, which took place at Aula Magna and Paper Pavillion started with a keynote from Asylbek Kozhakhmetov, Founder & President of Almaty Management University, Kazakhstan. The keynote was followed by a series of concurrent discussions around the topics of driving change in different sectors, leveraging Tech for Innovations in Responsibility and Investing for Impact.

The participants met with industry leaders, luminaries, and members of social impact community. Some of the companies and businesses that were present at the forum were Auara, PwC Spain, BBVA, Impact Hub Madrid, Gjosa & Smixin, Bscale and Bridge for Billions.

Gilles Vromman, Master in Management student, said “As a participant, I was impressed by the diversity of perspectives included: it was truly all-round insight into the topics at hand.”

IE Social Responsibility Forum 2014

 15929310652_e6529d6005_o On 21st and 22nd November the IE Net Impact Chapter welcomed more than 250 attendees, including more than 40 speakers, to its 9th Social Responsibility Forum, “Action, Impact, Change!”.

The forum, which took place at Mutua Madrilena and IE Business School, included keynotes from Denielle Sachs, Director of Social Impact, McKinsey & Company and Ana Andueza, Public Sector Parnter, Deloitte Spain, as well as nine panels on diverse topics such as ‘Impact Investing’ and ‘Education in the 21st Century’.

15742574538_65be6125e3_oThere were numerous interactive components including case studies led by E&Y, Emzingo and McKinsey & Company, discussing topics from the new electric F1 car to mining in South Africa, as well as a Design Thinking Challenge based on the Hult Prize’s current competition.

Net Impact Update: May 2013 – April 2014

1. The Art of Changing the World – May 13, 2013
The Net Impact Club, together with the IE Corporate Communication Club, hosted a session on social entrepreneurship with Francisco Polo, the founder of Actuable.es and the director of Change.org.

Change.org is an online petition platform that has more than 25 million users in 196 countries. In this session, Francisco Polo shared his experience, key success factors, and entrepreneurial mindset with us.

2. Impact Investing – May 16, 2013
The IE Net Impact Club, together with the IE Finance Club and IE Venture Capital and Private Equity Club, hosted an interactive information session with Anna-Marie Harling, an impact investing professional from the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA). She talked about how Impact Investing is providing funding to Social Businesses, creating a financial return to the investor, while helping alleviate the world‘s most pressing problems. She also discussed the investment opportunities this new field offers.

3. Global Village – June 13, 2013
Global Village is a celebration of one of the most distinct characteristics of IE Business School- the diversity of its students who come from over 65 nationalities. In the event participants showcase the best of their countries’ cuisine, culture, arts and craft, traditions and tourism. The money raised by the event is donated to the main activities of the IE Social Responsibility Forum. The event reached 500 attendees and a representation of some 40 countries.

4.   Sons of the Clouds: The Last Colony – July 3, 2013
IE Net Impact Club co-sponsored this event with the IE Media & Entertainment Club. We screened the documentary “Sons of the Clouds: The Last Colony” about the refugee camps in Western Sahara and gave attendees an opportunity to interact with director and producer Alvaro Longoria.

5.  “A Common Enemy” – July 17, 2013
IE Net Impact Club co-sponsored this event with the IE Media & Entertainment Club.  On July 17th, we screened the documentary “A Common Enemy”, a political documentary thriller on the first-ever free elections in Tunisia after the Arab Spring, from up and coming director/producer Jaime Otero Romani (IMBA, 2013).

6.   “How to survive tragedy and realize the potential within you” – July 22, 2013
On July 22nd, the IE Net Impact Club in collaboration with IE Women in Business hosted Ashoka Fellow Ana Bella Estevez, founder of the Fundación Ana Bella.  Ana spoke about empowering abused women and connecting them with women who have successfully overcome abuse.
7.   “Trend of Japanese Welfare Systems – September 6, 2013
The speaker series event featured Yuko Hamasaki and Yasuko Otsu.  Ms. Hamasaki’s presentation focused on providing care environments for old people with dementia while Ms. Otsu’s presentation focused on the Japanese child welfare system.

8.   Social Innovation Cluster – September 26, 2013
Concepción Galdón, innovation and entrepreneurship professor at IE Business School, spoke about the Social Innovation Cluster.  The Social Innovation Cluster is a collaborative effort between the IE CSR department and the Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation in which members of the IE community will have a space to discuss how they apply innovation to pursue positive social impact.  The Cluster will also hopefully spark collaboration and networking among those interested in the topic.

9.   8th Annual Social Responsibility Forum – November 22 & 23, 2013
From November 22nd to 23rd, we will be hosting our 8th Annual Social Responsibility Forum that brings together students and professionals to discuss sustainability within the context of a variety of topics. Topics cover diverse areas such as energy, finance and entrepreneurship. We are looking for speakers to join us so if you know someone that might be a good fit, please e-mail us at srforum@ie.edu.

10. Net Impact Student Connection Series – Social Entrepreneurship  – April 24, 2014
Four current students, Marvin Arnold, Mitch Maddox, Mallori Morris, and Barnaby Ferrero, who have worked in social ventures around the world will speak about their journeys into social entrepreneurship and give an honest perspective of the opportunities and challenges.
Marvin co-founded an African SMS-based outreach platform, Movercado, That addresses distribution of health products and trainings in rural communities. Mitch partnered with non-profits and diplomatic missions to Provide interactive, online projects Between students in the U.S. and Germany. Mallori spent two years as a Director for Akola, a social Ugandan business women through EMPOWERS That vocational training, education programs, and employment opportunities. Barnaby raised $ 100,000 in three weeks to fund a community development project focused on culture in Detroit, Michigan.

11. Impact Weekend – April 25-27, 2014
The third annual Impact weekend is a 60-hour social entrepreneurial workshop in Madrid. It brings together students and professionals across Spain to share ideas and develop socially responsible business plans. The weekend begins with an open pitching session where ideas for businesses are proposed and the best 5 ideas will be selected. A team of 6-8 participants will then be formed around each idea. On Saturday and Sunday the teams will work together to develop their business plan before they are evaluated during a final pitch on Sunday night. The aim is for teams to use innovative and practical methodologies to create a venture that is scalable and can address real-world issues. Teams will receive valuable mentoring social entrepreneurs throughout the weekend. On Sunday evening, each team will pitch to investors from traditional and socially orientated venture capital firms. The winning team will be awarded mentorship and coaching sessions from top social entrepreneurs and will have the option for direct entry into venture lab.

8th IE Social Responsibility Forum – Social Means Business

SOCIAL RESP FORUM 2013 073 (Medium)For the eight year, the IE Social Responsibility Forum (SRF) was successfully organized by the students of the IE Net Impact Club. This year’s theme, “Social Means Business”, inspired the more than 300 attendees to explore the many ways that business is helping create a sustainable and positive impact in the world. Attendees to the forum included professionals, business school students, IE Staff, IE Alumni, and IE Students. More than 70 speakers from around the world came to Madrid to network and move the discussion forward on the different topics covered in 19 different panel discussions held throughout the two day event. Nicolas Marang, Director of International Coordination CSR & Sustainability at L’Oréal opened the event as keynote speaker. Nicolas unveiled for the first time to the public “Sharing Beauty with All”, L’Oréal’s new sustainability plan.

SOCIAL RESP FORUM 2013 235 (Medium)For the first year, the SRF held an open invitation to everyone from the IE community to nominate an IE Alumni who is making a difference in the world through their work. The first IE SRF Alumni Award was given to Max Oliva.
