November 8, 2013. Madrid, Spain – IE Operations Management Club has organized a visit to DHL Quer (DHL – Calle Vega del Henares, hall 1, 19209 Quer, Guadalajara) to have a hands on understanding of the Lean management at DHL logistics services business in relation to the presentation delivered by Mr. Antonio on 18th October at IE campus.
Mr. Antonio lead the visit with an introduction to the DHL factory and also provided the safety jackets, shoes and other elements required for a safe entry to the floor. At the plant, the operators were so helpful to take some time out of their regular work hours and explain the various stages of the implementation of Lean practices and continuous improvement in their daily job. The operators mentioned the various metrics like productivity, error rate, quality and availability used to track the overall plant performance on daily basis. These metrics were also updated on the dashboards to comply with the Kaizen philosophy.
Later on, the DHL team also introduced IE students to the Root cause analysis topic. The IE team gained insights on the live implementation of DMAIC methodology (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) that is applied at the plant. This visit was very thoughtful and a great learning experience for the IE student group.
Bharath Kumar (IE Operations Management Club President) and Alvaro Buitrago Alvaro (IE Operations Management Club Alumni Advisor) along with the IE student group expressed their gratitude to Mr. Antonio and team for their extended warm welcome and knowledge sharing session at the practical level.
