First annual IE Latin American Conference

On the 3rd of April, the Latin American Business Club celebrated the first annual ‘IE Latin American Conference’, which hosted 150 attendees from more than ten nations, among whom were students, professors, business people, and politicians.

The conference that was presented with the title “How is the current situation of Latin America?” started with a speech by Abel Aquino, President of the IE Latin American Club.

Next, Enrique Iglesias, former General Secretary of the General Ibero American Secretary (SEGIB), who also was the keynote speaker of this event, said that “the biggest challenge for Latin America is to obtain major independence from the Chinese economic cycle.”  Similarly, Iglesias emphasized that “the region today has a better political structure, a stronger presence of democracy, votes, and human rights structures than it did 50 years ago”.

Subsequently, Iglesias gave the floor to the Macroeconomic panel, which has been moderated by the Vice President of External Relations of the IE Business School, Gonzalo Garland. This panel was composed of Juan Carlos Martinez, professor of Economic Environment, Paz Ambrosy, professor of Private Equity and Partner Director of Global Institutions Investors, and Alberto Dörr, Director of Planning and Develop of Santander Universidades.

Finally, to close the first occasion of this event, César Pabón, member of the Club and MBA student, thanked all the participants for their support and invited all of them to contribute to the development and strengthening of the links between Europe and Latin America.
