During the 2013- 2014 school year- the first year of its inception – the IE Caribbean Club, Madrid Chapter organised its main fundraising event –  The Caribbean Night and participated in the Global Village.

The Caribbean Night

Members of the IE Caribbean Club hosted their first fundraising party dubbed “Unleash the Summer: Summer Shorts and Stilettos Edition” on Friday, May 23, 2013.  It was an opportunity for students from the Caribbean to highlight social features specific to their country to Caribbean enthusiasts in Madrid. Music from various genres influenced by the Caribbean such as – Reggae, Meringue, Dancehall and Calypso/Soca soothed the hearts of those in attendance. As we look forward, we plan to make this an annual event of celebration for Caribbean countries here in Madrid and an opportunity for persons to learn more about the similarities and differences among the English and Spanish Caribbean countries.

Caribbean Representation at Global Village

Members of the IE Caribbean Club was excited to participate at IE’s Annual Global Village on Thursday, June 12, 2014. The event allowed for authenticly flavoured food from Jamaica such as the famous jerk chicken and fried green and ripe plantains as well as delicacies from Dominican Republic such pica pollo. Tastebuds of many of the participants  came alive while they learnt about the different foods.

Going forward, the baton has been passed on to the new members of the Club in order to build on its traditions while creating new experiences.
