April 28th, Madrid, Spain. The 5th edition of IE Impact Weekend started last Friday 24th driven by the excitement of its more than fifty participants. Seven ideas were pitched, covering varied topics such as education in developing countries, NGO operations, recycling and food waste, among others. The participants ranked their preferred ideas and teams were formed to work during the rest of the weekend. On Saturday morning Andrew McCarthy, our Design Thinking professor and innovator, kicked-off an intense day of ideation and problem solving activities.
The teams worked on researching the market and designing a feasible solution to tackle social and environmental issues around the world. Each team, composed by people of different professional backgrounds and nationalities, brought diverse perspectives to come up with a viable business case. A group of mentors, movers and shakers of the entrepreneurial space, made sure that each team had the vital elements to be ready to pitch in front of investors and entrepreneurship gurus on Sunday evening. Heroes of Light, TelSell, Bring it Out, NuCooked, Health Village, Kala and Yes! Presented their final work at the Impact Hub in the middle of joy and nervousness to hear the final result.
The jury decided to award Heroes of Light, an app to motivate the volunteer workforce using gamification, as the winner of the challenge. This venture helps NGOs around the world to engage and commit more people into social issues. The winning team will continue working on their endeavor with Emzingo and has a direct pass to the recognized business accelerator of Venture Lab. Additionally they will enjoy a co-working space at the amazing Impact Hub and tickets to one of Real Madrid or Atlético upcoming matches, facilitated by Never Empty.
Congratulations to them and all the groups that made this weekend unforgettable!
