Last week the IE Big Data Club hosted its inaugural event, Data Disrupt, a speaker series in which professionals working in all aspects of Big Data came together to discuss their work, upcoming trends that they’ve been seeing, and what we need to do to live harmoniously in a world with constantly changing rules thanks to the proliferation of data.
Despite the varying backgrounds of each speaker ranging from data-driven businesses, the internet of things and the resulting networked society, IBM Watson natural language research, and virtual reality among others, a prevailing theme emerged. The message was that we, as individuals and as a society, need to start thinking differently in order to use the new constantly evolving technologies and the new capabilities that are being discovered through the use of Big Data.
Closing out the event and bringing together the different topics from the speakers, international key note speaker, Jose Luis Agundez, Head of Big Data and Innovation at Telefonica, urged the audience to start being the driving force for more open and transparent data handling in order to foster an equally open and transparent society. After all, Big Data isn’t just about technology, it’s also about doing the right thing for people.
The event was a success and the IE Big Data Club is already planning their next event! Stay tuned!
