Global Village Colombia Club

The Global Village is an activity that takes place around the world for students of different nations to show what their culture is all about. At IE Business School we were given the opportunity as the Colombian Club to demonstrate what Colombian Culture was all about. Ever since we entered as officers for the club our predecessors told us about the importance of the Global Village Event. gv colombia

The preparations began with the decorations for our booth. This decoration was brought from Colombia so we could really give the experience of our home country. Colombia is a vast country with different attributes all over it’s regions. Since we have people from all around the country we certainly could share our vast but very common culture. The decorations had the colors of our flags and our stand popped out as soon as you entered the pavilion. Flags, totumas (Colombian hand-made shot glasses) and Sombreros Vueltiaos (the hats) were our main protagonists. GV colombia 3

The second step was thinking about the food we were going to share with the participants of the evening. We established a relation with a very well-known Colombian restaurant so that we really had our most known dishes for everyone to try. We had salt and sugar snacks that would offer people the opportunity to really understand what it is all about in our country. We would even have people mistake our food with our neighbor country’s food, but that made experience even richer. Getting to explain what our food is all about with different people is all about Colombian character and we were all into it.

At last we participated in the dances presented during the day. This activity was the most challenging since we talked to a folkloric group from Colombia that currently resides in Madrid so they could help us out. We met once a week for 3 weeks so that we could manage a choreography between us and the group.

The dance consisted of our own dances and costumes so that everyone could get to know what we really dance to back home. The results were spectacular everyone wanted to take pictures with us and at the end even got to dance with us.

This is definitely a memory that we will carry and cherish for the rest of our lives. Thanks to IE and the Campus Life staff for helping us organize this events in which we may share and get to know people and theyw’re culture from all around the world.
