IE Excursions Club visit to San Lorenzo de El Escorial

[1]Next academic semester IE Excursions Club plans to travel to the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial which is located in between Segovia and Madrid. This would be a brand-new trip which we were originally planning to organize this past September but due to unforeseen changes within Campus Life, we were not able to do so.

Our club has gone so far to: Avila, Salamanca (3 times), and Toledo (2 times). Another new location we are trying to add is the city of Burgos which will be planned for the month of February!

In any case, El Escorial is a very interesting place as it holds a lot of history in the area. Being a UNESCO world heritage site, El Escorial has two main monuments to visit: The Monastery which was a historical residence of the King of Spain, a monastery, pantheon, library, university and a museum and ‘Valle de los Caidos’ (the Valle of the Fallen), which is a monument constructed during Franco’s regime and the location where thousands of his soldiers and himself are buried.

This will be a very interesting trip and compared to the others, a closer one to Segovia as it is only a one-hour bus ride to the town and monuments. So, make sure to join our Facebook page for our updates and we hope to see you guys there!
