AI, Strategy and Human Development. IE AI Club

Written on January 28, 2019 by Campus Life in Professional

On Wednesday, January 23rd, the IE AI Club hosted in collaboration with the IE Big Data Club, our first event of 2019, focused on AI, Strategy and Human Development. Our speaker was Héctor Sanchez Montenegro, National Technology Officer of Microsoft Spain. We had an amazing turnout, with more than 70 attendees from our existing members and a lot of new members from the IMBA, MIM, and other IE programmes.

Héctor Sanchez’s presentation walked the audience through the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well the different types of AI available to us at the moment, predictions about the future, and Microsoft’s stance and product developments, when it comes to Artificial Intelligence.

Hector elaborated on the differences between classic software development compared to machine learning algorithms, and how neural networks were designed to simulate the interconnections between human neurons.

The presentation walked us through the early ages of artificial intelligence, the current focus on machine learning and the upcoming future of deep learning, as well as the reasons that artificial intelligence developments have accelerated lately.

The audience remained engaged throughout the presentation and also had the chance to hear about the current debates about the impact on humans, the ethics of AI, and some potential predictions about the future of artificial intelligence.

According to Héctor,

The question is not: what can Artificial Intelligence do?
The question is: what should Artificial Intelligence do?

The IE AI Club would like to thank our members for being active in the Club’s activities, and to welcome the new cohorts and the new members to the club!

Don’t forget that we will be participating in the Club Fair on the 4th of February and we hope to see you there.

Stay tuned for more things to come in 2019! We’re organising a lot of exciting new events and speakers!

If you participated at the event and would like to have access to the presentation, please email us with your request at ai.club@ie.edu
There were several questions from the audience that went unanswered because of time restrictions, please email us any questions you might have for Héctor, and we’ll make sure to consolidate them and get back to you with his responses.
