Public Speaking and Drama Club Collaboration

Written on February 25, 2019 by Campus Life in Professional, Social

The year 2019 has been a year of continued collaboration here at the IE Public Speaking Club. Our last collaboration with the IE Drama Club was a testament to that. A big thank you to Anna Lotta Hattig and Alan Mekibel from the IE Drama Club and one of IEs students, Ellen Buckland, a professional actress with multiple years of experience teaching theatre tools and techniques to boardroom executives.

The workshop was something out of the ordinary, hosted in the basement of the Valezquez building, we had no chairs and a lot of space to move. And that’s exactly what was needed. Public Speaking is as much preparation of your slideshow; focus on your body and voice; and preparation as it is being brave enough to stand in front of a room full of people. In this workshop, we were taken through numerous exercises used by those who live for the stage.

All these exercises were out of the ordinary and had our members almost rolling on the floor with laughter. But behind all the fun and games was an amazing lesson – we were learning to be comfortable in front of other people in very uncomfortable ways.

This was proof that learning can be more than just fun, it can be an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and act a little silly at times. Whether it was sticking your tongue out and gawking or pretending you were a prince or a queen, it was a great opportunity to expand that comfort zone a little.

We look forward to more collaborations in the future.
