1008339_10200637027743113_131813590_oWords has it that every year there would be a new book published saying that China’s economy is going to sink but actucally there have already been more than a dozen or so in the market while Chinese Economy is still growing.

Such comments just came from the conference deliverd by Mr.Howard Davis, Dean of Hong Kong’s Polytecnic University and a brilliant professor who just walked the “Camino de Santiago” before he came to Maria de Molina 31 to share with about 50 IE students his insights on Hongkong’s Economy on June 24th, 2013. The event turned out to quite a vivid conversation and the feedback of the attending students had been overwhelming. Mr.Howard Davis’s humorous lecture style and abundant knowledge made the the speech very useful for background filling on the whole subject of Hon Kong’s Economy, actucally, a lecture like this is worth a fortune, because Mr.Davis only does it for Senior Business classes back in his university, so basically the attendants had the luck to save 1 plane-ticket to Hongkong.

The event was a part of the lecture series that IE China Club is planning to bring on IE Campus and it’s an effort of trying to build outside class contents that are in line with one of the world’s most heated topics – Chinese market. More is to be continued as IE China Club is working on arranging to repeat the success, so interested students please widen your eyes and register when our next bomb comes out!

Written on July 23, 2013 by Campus Life in Geographic

Colombia2Colombia1On June 11, 2013 IE Colombia Club held an event in a typical Colombian food restaurant PATACON PISAO. 35 Colombians from different programs of IE attended the event, creating an opportunity to meet students from all IE programs and to share experiences with Colombians living in Spain while watching the match of Colombia team around a typical meal that was sponsored by the club.

The match was one of the most important ones the Colombian team has had in recent years; this was due to its good qualifying campaign in South America making the team very close of returning to the World Cup after 16 years of absence. The IE Colombia Club created this opportunity so the Colombians at IE could support their national team from a distance in another crucial step in its career to Brazil.

Who are we?

The mission and objectives we aim are to promote and make discover our fellow colleagues the great aspects of the spanish culture, in terms of traditions, gastronomy, history, art and, in general, spanish lifestyle. Our intention is to organize as many events and visits as possible, in order to help dig deeper in the qualities of one of the most ancient cultures in the world. In effect, we try to balance the time among these activities to get a taste of everything that Spain has to offer.

Fernando Echeverría (President)

IMBA Nov’2012

Spain (Vitoria)

I am a finance professional with 6 years of experience combining postgraduate academic preparation and ‘real-world’ experience in Spain and France. After graduating in Law and Economics in the University of Navarra, I moved to Paris to study a Master in Finance in HEC Paris during a year. Later I worked for Deustche Bank in Madrid and Barclays Bank in Toulouse (France) from 2008 until 2011. Then I returned to Madrid to work in transactions consulting for Ernst & Young before entering the IMBA in November 2012. I enjoy meeting new people and I feel the IE Spanish Outreach club is the best opportunity to make the best of my culture and share it with all my fellows during this IE experience.

María Luisa de Miguel

MIM F1 (English track)

I came into the world to be an architect, and after I had become one I realized that I keep on wanting to be and do more things. Currently I am studying the MIM because I want to keep on expanding my knowlede and challenge myself constantly. My enterprenuer spirit has never let me take a break from life. I have started my own architect firm, and architect association and a marmalade company. On the weekeds I work as an architect guide and in my “spare time” I am an assistant professor at ETSAM university and mentor in a programm for students.

As some people say to me, I am hiperactive, but it is only when I am doing things I really like that I put the energy and time.

The IE SPANISH OUTREACH CLUB is my next challenge, and having the opportunity to share this experience with all of the IE members is a great opportunity.

IE BOTW Beer Olympics

Written on July 10, 2013 by Campus Life in Social

beer-olympics5It has now been almost 3 months since the inaugural Beer Olympics was held at O’Connors Bar (C/ Almagro, 3) on April 19th. For those of you who did not attend it or weren’t here yet, you really don’t know what you missed. It was a flash from the past… That is, if your past included a fraternity or house parties with drinking games. For the newbies it was a good chance to explore their inner freshman that was never given a fair chance. By midnight there was a beer pong tournament being played by seasoned veterans on a plywood covered pool table: regulation size.

beer-olympics4Several makeshift tables were used to train up and coming athletes, upstairs and down. The whole bar was taken over with inspirational athleticism.

Meanwhile, in the other room teams were competing in flip cup round by round. Of The Week Team was successful from the beginning till the end, upsetting the competition with a commanding lead right from the start. Team Captain Jim Rand was quoted as saying “This is my house!”. Someone is yet to prove him wrong. And that, my friends, is an official challenge for the next Beer Olympics.

beer-olympics3The next games have not yet been officially planned, but they are sure to show up again before the die hard BOTW crew calls it a year. More games are planned. Blind Man’s Stumble anyone? Perhaps some balancing acts? Maybe even a keg stand? Anyone got any other bright ideas? Join IE Bar Of The Week Facebook Page and submit your suggestions: not only for Beer Olympics, but for other events as well. Try to be creative, eh?

Lots of love,
