IE Out & allies, Uber visit

Written on January 31, 2019 by Campus Life in Professional, Social

On Wednesday, January 23rd the IE Out and Allies Club organized a company visit to Uber’s Headquarters in Madrid. Over 30 students participated in the event and were able to learn more about Uber’s cultural evolution over the past several years and specifically their initiatives around diversity and inclusion.

Our first speaker was Juan Galiardo Sosa, the director of Uber Spain. Juan has been with Uber since 2014. Juan talked about his first-hand experience watching Uber’s culture evolve and the positive impact it has had on the company. Then Rodrigo Caetano Teixeira, Recruiter and EMEA Board Member of UberPRIDE, spoke to us about Uber’s specific initiatives around diversity and inclusion including UberPRIDE, Uber’s LGBT+ employee resource group. Finally, we had a Q&A with several members of the Uber team present in the office.

The event was extremely beneficial for the participants’ understanding of Uber as a company and provided them with a good overview of potential opportunities for employment in the future. The IE Out and Allies Club is very grateful to Uber for offering us this opportunity and putting on such an informative presentation.

IEOut and Allies. Amazon Recruiting and Networking

Written on December 20, 2018 by Campus Life in Professional, Social

The IE Out and Allies Club was very pleased to sponsor an Amazon Networking and Recruiting Event with David Rodriguez. David is a Senior Program Manager in Amazon’s Global Talent Management department and sits on the board of Glamazon, Amazon’s LGBT+ Affinity Group, in Madrid. David also has experience as a Process and Implementation Manager for TNT Express.
David spoke extensively about Amazon’s hiring process and the skills and values Amazon is seeking from potential employees. He took us step by step through Amazon’s application and interview process and gave students advice on how to best tackle each stage. David shared some of his own experience joining Amazon to illustrate the process even further.
Additionally, David spoke to us about the culture at Amazon and what it is like to work for the company. Specifically, David spoke about how Amazon is constantly reinventing himself and every day is “Day 1.” While David knows what his role will be for the next month or two, the company is constantly changing and thus people need to change with it. Students left the meeting with a better understanding of Amazon’s recruitment process and what their work life would look like if they worked at Amazon.

Sexual Health Seminar

Written on December 5, 2018 by Campus Life in Professional, Social

In recognition of World AIDS Day, the IE Out & Allies Club organized a sexual health seminar to promote awareness of HIV and AIDS. It was our honor to host Dr. Daniel Cortez of Fundación Triángulo to talk to the IE community for the second straight year.

Dr. Cortez discussed HIV prevention methods, research on medications including PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), and the current related political situation in Spain. PrEP is now accessible to many LGBT+ communities around the world and it is covered by the public health systems of certain EU countries. It is however not yet officially available in Spain.

This year the seminar was streamed online for those who could not participate in person. The seminar was a great opportunity for students to update their knowledge on this topic and we are very grateful to Dr. Cortez for coming to speak with us.
