Last weekend, our IE Tennis Club under the lead of Henri Chao has placed first during this year’s IESE Spring Games. Both of the teams have shown an outstanding performance and we are truly proud of this achievement and thank all participants who represented IE in Barcelona.

The event was held from Friday till Sunday and organised by IESE Business School. Before attending the games, the Tennis Club organised tryouts where the players have been selected to form the IE team. The games itself were in Davis Cup style where two singles and one double were played. Amongst IE, other leading business schools were participating like Wharton, Bocconi, Rotterdam and Esade. The tennis club was represented by 2 teams, team number 1 won the whole tournament and team 2 made it to the semi-finals.

The teams have consisted of: Anastasiya Halaburda, Angelika Sobiecka, Valeria Clivaz, Antoine Plumey, João Rafael Marques de Almeida, Leandro Completa, Sacha Toledano and Henri Chao

IE team rocks in IESE Spring Games!

SpringGamesIESE Spring Games 2016 was one of the best weekends of the MBA. A weekend of sunshine in Barcelona with nearly 1,000 students from 9 of the top MBA schools in Europe. IE had an amazing showing of nearly 160 students to compete in many sports and games against schools like LBS, INSEAD, HEC, IESE, ESADE, and more. We had representation from April, September, and January Intakes as well as other programs including the Big Data, MIM, MIF, and Communications.

Friday launched with the big beach day! Despite some rain showers, the sun was out and we had some awesome fun on the sand. Games included Volleyball, Beer pond, beach soccer, and just plain Cheering and dancing to the great DJ.

IE brought home the SILVER medal for PRO Beach Volleyball.  (Slim & Amanda)

Friday night- we all danced the night away at Opium Club right on the Beach carrying us into day one of the Competition!

An early start to the day, we all meandered to the Sports Facility where we had a jam packed day of games, cheering, and of course the Beer garden J

We had a guest visitor BetSIE the mascot who came to every game to cheer on and keep the excitement rolling. Mens Football, Rugby, Dodgeball, Basketball, Womens Football, Volleyball, Badmitton, Tennis, Sailing, and Salsa — THAT IS HOW IE ROLLS!

Most of the IE Students lost their voices from Singing, Cheering, and Screaming for the teams – we even got LBS to sing along with our catchy Instituto Empressa anthem.

Teams literally played their hearts out and were bruised and sweaty from head to toe but huge grins from adrenaline and pride. Plus the beer garden didn’t hurt.

3Saturday night more students went out on the town to Sutton Club to dance the night away and watch the Salsa team TAKE HOME THE GOLD!! Sunday day was when Mens Football and Volleyball played for the finals and Volleyball ended with the GOLD. While everyone was having a BBQ and Beers and Live Music at the fields complex, the Sailing Team was too busy winning medals on the water.

We are excited that this is a great ramp up to the MBAT – and hope your teams are now FIRED up and ready to roll. Let’s keep the adrenaline rushing forward over the next few weeks and keep up the momentum. All photos and videos will be compiled HERE!

We came home with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals and we should all be very proud! Here are some of the results below: (Full scores will be released later this week)

IE Tennis Club at IESE Spring Games and MBAT

Written on January 2, 2015 by Campus Life in Sports

Ttennispost2he IESE Spring Games were held during the weekend of April 4th-6th and the IE Tennis Club had a team representing the school. We participated in two different categories: Mixed Doubles and Men´s Singles.

In the first category, we were represented by Camilo Bueno (Colombia)/Nathalia Reyes (El Salvador) and Sebastián Chacón (Colombia)/Amelia Wix (UK). They all had a great performance and the first couple defeated all their rivals, and after winning 3 different matches they got the gold medal in their category.

In Men´s Singles, we were represented by Hernán Mendivil (Peru), from the IMBA program. He ended up making it into semifinals after defeating all three adversaries in his group. Then, he made it to the final, and sadly lost that final match after 3 very exciting sets.

tennispost3This tournament was a very interesting experience because all IE teams started to prepare and generate a good cohesiveness towards the next challenge that MBAT represented.

When May arrived, everybody was really anxious because it meant that MBAT was about to start. Many of us had heard about this tournament even before the program started, and we were told that this was one of the best experiences we will have during this year.

The IE Tennis Club sent 2 teams to compete and both of them did a great job. Tennis matches were like playing a Davis Cup, but with men and women participating at the same time. Each team was supposed to present 2 Men´s Singles, 2 Women´s Singles, 1 Men´s Doubles, 1 Women´s Doubles and 1 Mixed Doubles.

The first team was composed by Chris Holman (USA), Kunal Bisariya (USA), Santosh Mahale (India), Ricardo Ocampo (Colombia) and María Angela Cepero (Colombia). They played against LBS, Cambridge and Oxford and this team was one match away from getting to the semifinals.

tennispost1The second team was composed by Hernán Mendivil (Peru), Ryan McVicker (USA), Amelia Wix (UK) and Catalina Esparza (Colombia) and they played against RSM and HEC, defeating both teams and making it into the semifinals. They then played against Oxford and got to play the final against Insead. Finally, they got us the silver medal of the tennis tournament.

Although most of the tennis matches were held off campus because of the rain, this was an incredible experience for bonding with every IE team. The IE spirit had a great presence amongst all activities that took place that weekend.
