Interview with a Club: IE Music Club

Written on September 19, 2013 by Campus Life in Other Activities, Social

Who are we?IMG-20130918-WA004

Music is a great form of art and for those passionate about it, it is a way to transform oneself to another world. IE Music Club understands that all students at IE work hard throughout and need time to unwind and follow their interests. Music is a one of the best forms of stress buster and we have a mission to help students pursue their passion and meet likeminded people to explore, listen, and create music.

Current Coordinators

Nikhil Aggarwal (President) – he is studying IMBA prior to which he was a finance professional. He is a singer (oh yes, he always wanted someone to call him that), not by profession but by interest and also likes exploring new music. He is the sole club coordinator of the Music Club and performed at the IE India Club’s Diwali event in 2012. He is from India and a few of his favorite English songs are – Iris from Goo Goo Dolls and With or Without You from U2.

IMG-20130918-WA001Club Activities

The club holds weekly music practice sessions on Wednesday’s from 7pm – 9pm at studio BoxInBox (c/ Sanchez Pacheco 82). This has been possible due to full support and effort from Giedre and the Music Club would like to say a special thanks to her for getting this through. Everyone who is interested in music such as singing or playing instruments can drop in and jam with us. Apart from that the music club is open for other suggestions regarding the activities that members are interested in.

Our Vision

The main project that IE Music Club is working towards is to get likeminded people having an interest in music together and form an IE Band. Once that is formed and they have rehearsed together,  IE Music Club also plans to create an official IE slogan to be used in the years to come.

Get in touch and participate!

The club has a Facebook Page that can be liked to receive the latest updates from IE Music Club. There is a IE Music Club group as well on Facebook. Any student can become a member of the music club by going to IE communities and selecting the box in front of IE Music Club on the clubs page. The music club coordinator can also be contacted separately at his email.

Who are we?

IE USA Club is a geographic one that seeks to support the American community at IE and to engage our peers from other countries so they may get to know us better. The US is a large and unique place and our peers are often surprised to see how different people from California are different that those from Alabama or New York.

Current Coordinators

  1. Braden Weinstock (President) – November 2012 IMBA from Los Angeles, CA who likes adventure sports, travel in emerging countries, and Mexican food!
  2. Mallori Morris (VP) – April 2013 IMBA from Miami, FL shares a love of travel, adventure and meeting new people.
  3. Annie Chor (VP) – April 2013 IMBA from New York City has a passion for exploring new places, trying new foods, and lives by the quote – Carpe Diem!
  4. Kyle Fraser (Events) – November 2013 IMBA from New Mexico who is an adrenaline junkie that does not like haircuts.
  5. Wallis Ranatunga (Treasurer) – November 2012 IMBA from New York, loves travelling, cooking, and watching football with friends (Go Steelers!)
  6. Alexis Berger (Marketing & Communciations) – November 2012 IMBA with dual citizenship (Boston & New York), loves pad thai, vino blanco and photography.

Club ActivitiesIMG_2433

While the US is often the news we hope to provide another perspective to our peers of what it means to be an American all the while creating a place Americans can come to for some good ‘ol American fun! This is why we put on a table at this year’s Global Village, hosted a “college house party”, and recently a July 4th party (in Bernabeu Stadium).

Our Vision

Our aim is to host events regularly as they correspond to things we would do in the US. So some upcoming things to look for are: American football, Super Bowl party, and Thanksgiving!

Get in touch and participate!

You can chat with any of the members of the board, or just the American in your class, to hear what we might be working on to see if you want to get involved. We can also be emailed at usaclub@ie.edu or check our Facebook page. We are also open to co-hosting events with activity clubs (e.g. basketball – NBA Finals).

The mission and objectives we aim are to promote and make discover our fellow colleagues the great aspects of the spanish culture, in terms of traditions, gastronomy, history, art and, in general, spanish lifestyle. Our intention is to organize as many events and visits as possible, in order to help dig deeper in the qualities of one of the most ancient cultures in the world. In effect, we try to balance the time among these activities to get a taste of everything that Spain has to offer.

I am a finance professional with 6 years of experience combining postgraduate academic preparation and ‘real-world’ experience in Spain and France. After graduating in Law and Economics in the University of Navarra, I moved to Paris to study a Master in Finance in HEC Paris during a year. Later I worked for Deustche Bank in Madrid and Barclays Bank in Toulouse (France) from 2008 until 2011. Then I returned to Madrid to work in transactions consulting for Ernst & Young before entering the IMBA in November 2012. I enjoy meeting new people and I feel the IE Spanish Outreach club is the best opportunity to make the best of my culture and share it with all my fellows during this IE experience.

María Luisa de Miguel

Spanish

I came into the world to be an architect, and after I had become one I realized that I keep on wanting to be and do more things. Currently I am studying the MIM because I want to keep on expanding my knowlede and challenge myself constantly. My enterprenuer spirit has never let me take a break from life. I have started my own architect firm, and architect association and a marmalade company. On the weekeds I work as an architect guide and in my “spare time” I am an assistant professor at ETSAM university and mentor in a programm for students.

As some people say to me, I am hiperactive, but it is only when I am doing things I really like that I put the energy and time.

The IE SPANISH OUTREACH CLUB is my next challenge, and having the opportunity to share this experience with all of the IE members is a great opportunity.

Our Vision

We are planning to organize a full day tournament followed by some trophies for the winners and pizza for everyone (will keep you updated on that!). Another activity we want to organize is a 3×3 tournament and a 3 point shoot-out contest.

Get in touch and participate!

There’s a Facebook group that all IE students can join. They just need to subscribe and they will be able to see all the updates and write their comments. The Facebook Group’s wall is regularly updated with all the relevant information about the Club’s activities, so it’s the best way to be kept in the loop.

We always welcome anyone who is interested in joining our initiatives. Anyone can contact me or Raviteja to join as a member but we would like to interact with him/her if he/she wants to be part of the board.
